NIL & Beyond
Navigating Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) has changed the game. It’s no longer just about where you play, but how you manage your personal brand while staying eligible across different divisions.
When Should You Start?
Ideally, Freshman year of High School. While NIL deals might not happen immediately, your "digital footprint" starts now. Every post, highlight, and academic milestone builds the brand that businesses will eventually want to partner with.
Sophomore/Junior Year: This is the "Verification Phase." Ensure you are registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center and begin researching your specific state's high school NIL laws, as some states still prohibit monetization until you reach college.
NIL by the Numbers: Where Do You Fit?
Geography Matters
NIL rules aren't federal. If you live in Arizona, your high school rules are different than in Texas or California. Always check your state athletic association (e.g., AIA, UIL) before signing anything.
The Red Line
An NIL deal cannot be "pay-for-play." It cannot be contingent on you attending a specific school. If a deal sounds like a bribe to commit, it's likely a violation that will cost you your eligibility.
Cleaning the Feed
Coaches and brands look at your social media before they look at your stats. Keep it professional. One bad post can disqualify you from a scholarship or a multi-year brand deal.
